HISTORY & GOALS:

The Fathers Club has been serving Norwalk High School longer than any other parent organization.  We proudly boast this year as our 61st year of service to Norwalk High School.  The original organization was an exclusive club for men.  Times have changed and so has the Fathers Club.  In fact, three out of four of the past presidents have been women.  This is a Club for parents and guardians of Norwalk High School students.

The Fathers Club’s goals as originally set, were to assist any worthwhile academic, athletic or other program in the school.  This ambitious goal remains a strong tradition.  For example, the Fathers Club is committed to the Norwalk High School library.  We purchased the Social Resources Volumes as an enhancement to the library.  We funded the annual updates to these volumes on hard copies as well as CD ROM.  The Fathers Club contributed awards for the best floats designed by students at the Homecoming Game.  The Fathers Club purchased a scoreboard for the gymnasium, and the sound and lighting systems in the auditorium.  We also contributed to the purchase of the trophy cases in the lobby, and weights and other equipment for the exercise room.

The Fathers Club sponsors the Spring Musical Play by selling tickets, placing advertising, assembling the ad journal, volunteering as ushers, and selling refreshments at intermission.  The Fathers Club has also assisted the Hockey Team, the Cheerleaders, the Gymnastics Team, the Martial Arts Club, the Drill Team, and the Girls’ Basketball Team with the purchase of uniforms or equipment.  We also purchased trophies for the various teams within the school.  We supported the start-up of the Norwalk High School Winter Guard programs and the Norwalk Marching Bears’ trip to the Tournament of Roses Parade.  The Fathers Club has always donated money to the Post Graduation Party (PGP).

The Fathers Club also purchased a new mascot costume for NHS, digital cameras for the Art Department and school newspaper, a new computer system for the school literary magazine, and made contributions to valuable school programs such as Best Buddies, the French Mentoring Program, and the Geography Bee.  These are but a few of the many examples of how the Fathers Club meets its goal of supporting the Norwalk High School Community.

COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS:

In addition to providing funding for programs and activities at Norwalk High School, the Fathers Club also awards scholarships to graduating seniors. Scholarships are based on: academic achievement, participation and support of Norwalk High School activities and clubs, community service, extracurricular activities, and financial need.  Scholarships distributed over the past six years have totaled over $36,000. Seniors can apply for Fathers Club scholarships through the Norwalk High School Common Scholarship application available mid-year from the Career Center.  Please go to the College Scholarship page for details.

FUNDRAISING:

The Fathers Club has sponsored a wide variety of fundraisers over the years, including: corporate sponsorships for basketball games with the New York Giants and wrestling matches with the WWE.  The Fathers Club also runs the concession stand at home varsity football games..

MEETINGS:

Meetings are held during the school year on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in the Norwalk High School library.  Meetings usually wrap up in about an hour. We hope that you will come and join us.
